The Impact of Social Media on Teen Health

A study conducted by the French National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) sheds light on the impact of social media on the health of 11- to 17-year-olds. The report shows how the attention-grabbing mechanisms deployed by these platforms exploit the vulnerability specific to this age group. The resulting effects—such as sleep disorders and anxiety—are documented, along with significant risks of cyberviolence and cyberbullying. Girls, who are more exposed, are particularly affected. ANSES recommends a regulatory framework, prevention campaigns, and media literacy education to mitigate these risks.
