Health Monitoring of Asthma - Back-to-School 2021. Weekly Update for October 19, 2021.

Key Points

Week 41 (October 11–17, 2021):

  • In the Indian Ocean region, the number of emergency department visits for asthma among children under 15 and their share of total activity remained stable (54 visits and 4.3% in Week 41 vs. 53 visits and 4.0% in Week 40), at levels comparable to the previous three years. The number of hospitalizations following visits has decreased to 17%;

  • Nationally, asthma-related visits among children under 15 are on the rise in the SOS Médecins network (826 vs. 710 in Q40, a 16% increase) and in emergency departments (3,270 visits vs. 3,065 in Q40, a 7% increase). The levels observed in both networks are comparable to those of the past three years.
