Key Points - Week 35 (August 20–26, 2018)
In the Indian Ocean region, during the second week of school, emergency room visits for childhood asthma rose sharply (+108%) compared to Week 34 and accounted for 7.4% of total activity. These figures are comparable to those observed at the start of the 2017–2018 school year. The proportion of hospitalizations following a visit remains stable, with approximately one-quarter of visits resulting in hospitalization.
Nationally (including the Indian Ocean region), among children, visits to emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics for asthma have risen slightly compared to last week (by 16% and 24%, respectively), and the proportion of hospitalizations following an asthma-related visit (26%) remains stable.
