Asthma Health Monitoring - Back-to-School 2022. Weekly Update for September 6, 2022.

Week 35 (August 29–September 4, 2022):
In the Indian Ocean region, during the third week of the new school year in Réunion and the second week in Mayotte, the number of emergency department visits for asthma and the proportion of cases among children under 15 years of age decreased slightly compared to the previous week (-7%, or 11 fewer visits, and a 10% share of cases vs. 11% in Week 34). The proportion of cases remains comparable to levels in previous years (Table 1 and Figure 1). The proportion of hospitalizations following emergency department visits is also slightly down: 29% in Week 35 vs. 30% in Week 34.
Nationally, during the first week of school in mainland France and the French departments in the Americas, emergency department visits for asthma among children under 15 increased (+25%, or +158 visits) as well as within the SOS Médecins network (+57%, or +78 procedures) (Table 2). The proportion of hospitalizations following an emergency department visit for asthma remains stable at 26%. The increases observed so far are comparable to those of the past three years (Figures 2 and 3).
