Asthma Health Monitoring - Back-to-School 2022. Weekly Update for September 28, 2022.

Week 38 (September 19–25, 2022):

  • In the Indian Ocean region, during the sixth week of the school year in Réunion and the fifth week in Mayotte, the number of emergency room visits for asthma and the proportion of cases among children under 15 years of age decreased slightly (85 visits in Week 38 vs. 92 in Week 37 and 5% vs. 6% in Week 37), as did the proportion of hospitalizations following visits: 24% in Week 38 vs. 26% in Week 37. The observed level is comparable to that of previous years.

  • Nationally, during the fourth week of school in mainland France and the Antilles/Guyana region, emergency department visits for asthma among children under 15 are down (-17%, or 530 fewer visits) but remain up in the SOS Médecins network (+16%, or 96 more medical procedures). The proportion of hospitalizations following an emergency department visit for asthma is also down to 27% (vs. 30% in Week 37). The observed levels remain comparable to or even lower than those of the past three years.
