Week 37 (September 12–18, 2022):
In the Indian Ocean region, the fifth week of the new school year in Réunion and the fourth week in Mayotte, the number of emergency room visits for asthma and the proportion of cases among children under 15 have stabilized (92 visits in W37 vs. 94 in W36 and 6% vs. 7% in W36), while the proportion of hospitalizations following visits has decreased slightly: 27% in W37 vs. 29% in W36. The observed level is comparable to that of previous years.
Nationally, during the third week of school in mainland France and the Antilles/Guyana region, emergency department visits for asthma among children under 15 continued to rise (+42%, or +873 visits) as well as within the SOS Médecins network (+54%, or +212 medical procedures) (Table 2). The proportion of hospitalizations following an emergency department visit for asthma has decreased slightly to 30% (vs. 33% in Week 36). The increases observed remain comparable to or even lower than those of the past three years.
