Asthma Health Monitoring - Back-to-School 2022. Weekly Update for October 12, 2022.

Key Points

  • In the Indian Ocean region, 8 weeks after the start of the school year in Réunion and 7 weeks in Mayotte, the number of emergency room visits and the proportion of cases related to asthma have decreased slightly (72 visits and 4% vs. 80 visits and 5% in Week 39). The proportion of hospitalizations following visits is on the rise: 38% in Week 40 vs. 33% in Week 39. The observed level is comparable to that of previous years.

  • Nationally, during the 6th week of school in mainland France and for the Antilles/Guyana region, asthma-related visits among children under 15 have increased slightly in both networks (for the SOS Médecins network, +7% or +44 visits, and in emergency departments, +9% or +248 visits). Hospitalizations following emergency department visits are stable (24% vs. 25% in Week 39) (Table 2). The observed levels remain comparable to or even lower than those of the past three years.
