Introduction. Vaccination coverage rates among children and adolescents are routinely estimated using health certificates and school-based surveys. While these data sources provide satisfactory estimates, they are not very responsive. The objective is to use the General Practitioner Sample of Beneficiaries (EGB) to estimate vaccination coverage rates in a more timely manner. Here we present the VCOs for measles, rubella, and mumps (MMR), hepatitis B, and human papillomavirus (HPV) infections. Method. The EGB is a representative sample of beneficiaries of the main health insurance schemes. It allows us to link beneficiaries’ sociodemographic characteristics to their healthcare utilization over time and, thus, to trace each individual’s vaccination history. Results. For the years for which we have both data sources, the EGB data are consistent with those from health certificates. As of December 31, 2011, the 24-month coverage rate for children born in 2009 was 90.4% for 1 dose of MMR vaccine and 58.2% for 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine; 45.3% of girls aged 15 to 17 had started HPV vaccination, and 29.9% had received the recommended 3 doses. Discussion and conclusion. The EGB allows for regular, responsive, and reliable updates of vaccination coverage estimates. (R.A.)
