Key Points
Mainland France: sharp increase in all indicators, particularly hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and deaths
Increase in the number of people currently hospitalized (12,458 as of October 20) and in the number of people currently in intensive care (2,177).
Spread of the outbreak among older adults
Among those aged 65 and older: 6 times more cases, 5 times more hospitalizations, and 5 times more ICU admissions compared to early September
Increase in the number of cases in long-term care facilities
ICU admissions: 65% of those admitted to the ICU are aged 65 and older, and 90% have comorbidities
89 departments at high vulnerability level and 8 at moderate vulnerability level
Overseas territories:
High vulnerability level: Martinique: continued increase; Guadeloupe: decrease; French Guiana: decrease
Moderate vulnerability level: Mayotte: stabilization; Réunion: stabilization
Prevention: physical distancing (maintain at least one meter between people; greet others without shaking hands or kissing), hygiene measures (wash hands regularly; cough into your elbow), limit gatherings, wear a mask, and regularly ventilate enclosed spaces. Isolate if symptoms develop and get tested as soon as possible.
