Key Points

In Week 43, the resurgence of the epidemic is confirmed by the continued increase in SARS-CoV-2 transmission across mainland France.

  • Mainland France:

    • Incidence rate exceeding 50 per 100,000 people among those aged 10–79

    • Incidence rate above 50 per 100,000 inhabitants in 58 departments

    • Effective reproduction number (R_eff) >1, indicating an increase in the epidemic

    • Significant drop in testing rates among children under 10 due to school holidays

    • Rates of new hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care: mixed trends across regions

  • Overseas territories:

    • French Guiana: incidence rate continues to decline

Variants

  • 100% of cases identified as the Delta variant through sequencing during the Flash surveys on October 5 and 12, 2021

Contact tracing

  • Increase in the number of new cases but stabilization of the average number of contacts per case

  • Increase in the average age of cases and contacts since Week 37, calling for vigilance and the administration of a booster dose in the affected populations

Prevention

  • Vaccination as of November 2, 2021 (Covid Vaccine data):

    • 76.4% of the population had received at least one dose, and 74.6% were fully vaccinated

    • 19.8% of those aged 65 and older had received a booster dose

  • Importance of combined measures: vaccination, including booster shots for those aged 65 and older, participation in contact tracing, and adherence to preventive measures
