COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for May 14, 2020

Key Points

  • For the past six weeks, epidemiological indicators of SARS-CoV-2 circulation have been declining in France, with the exception of Mayotte

    • A decrease in COVID-19-related calls to the SOS Médecins network and hospital emergency rooms, reflecting a decline in new infections

    • Decrease in the number of new hospitalizations, new ICU admissions of COVID-19 patients, the number of hospitalized patients, and the number of patients in the ICU

  • High circulation of SARS-CoV-2 in Mayotte

  • Patients at risk for COVID-19

    • ICU: 81% of cases with comorbidities and 54% aged 65 and older

    • Deaths: at least 84% with comorbidities and at least 93% aged 65 and older

  • Emergence, linked to the COVID-19 epidemic, of a severe inflammatory syndrome in children with cardiac involvement, which is rare and currently appears to be in remission

  • Excess all-cause mortality at the national level, particularly pronounced in the Grand Est and Île-de-France regions, especially during weeks 13 through 16

  • Less consistent adoption of protective measures over time and since the start of lockdown; only the wearing of masks in public is on the rise
