In Week 09, a less pronounced slowdown in SARS-CoV-2 transmission nationwide, incidence at a high level, and a decline in hospitalizations.

  • Mainland France:

    • Incidence rate >500 per 100,000 inhabitants in most regions

    • Incidence rate rising among 3- to 10-year-olds

    • Positivity rate stable at a high level

    • Number of new hospitalizations and deaths still declining

    Overseas territories:
    • Sharp increase in incidence and positivity rates in Martinique

Variants

  • Omicron accounted for more than 99.9% of interpretable sequences in the Flash S08 survey of 02/21

  • BA.2 sublineage on the rise in S08 (43%) and predominant in S09 (52%, preliminary data)

Contact tracing

  • Average number of contacts reported per case identified (1.0) remains stable at a low level

  • Majority of cases (99%) and contacts (78%) were contacted on the day of or the day after their identification

  • Increase in the proportion of cases contacted who attended a sporting event or were in a school setting

Prevention

  • Vaccination as of March 8, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):

    • 79.4% of the total population had received a full primary vaccination series

    • 72.8% of those aged 18 and older had received a booster dose (82.6% of eligible individuals) and 82.9% of those aged 65 and older (91.0% of eligible individuals)

  • Importance of combined measures: a complete vaccination schedule, including a booster shot as early as three months after the initial series, as well as continued adherence to preventive measures (wearing masks, handwashing, frequent ventilation of indoor spaces) and participation in contact tracing
