COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for February 24, 2022
Key Points
In Week 07, SARS-CoV-2 transmission indicators continued to improve, as did COVID-19 mortality indicators, although all indicators remained at a high level.
Mainland France:
Incidence rates and positivity rates declining across all age groups and regions
Decrease in hospital admissions across all regions except Corsica, where they remained stable
Mortality remains high with more than 1,500 deaths per week, but is decreasing
Virological indicators and hospitalizations are declining but remain high in Réunion
Contact tracing
Sharper decline in the number of new cases (-40%) than in the number of at-risk contacts (-14%)
Decrease in the proportion of contacts who become cases (13%, -4 percentage points)
Variants
Omicron accounted for 99.5% of interpretable sequences in the Flash S06 survey of 02/07/2022
BA.2 sublineage on the rise (16% in S06, 10% in S05 vs. 5% in S04)
Prevention
Vaccination as of February 22, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):
79.2% of the total population had received a full primary vaccination series
71.9% of those aged 18 and older had received a booster dose (82.1% of eligible individuals) and 82.6% of those aged 65 and older (90.9% of eligible individuals)
Importance of combined measures:
Complete vaccination schedule with a booster shot as early as three months
Adherence to preventive measures, including mask-wearing and reducing contact, as well as other recommended measures such as frequent ventilation of enclosed spaces, teleworking, and participation in contact tracing
