COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for August 25, 2022
Key Points
In week 33, the epidemic situation continued to improve, albeit at a slower pace, with virological indicators showing a slight decline nationwide and a trend toward stabilization in certain regions. Hospital indicators continued to decline.
Mainland France:
Less pronounced decline in the incidence rate across all age groups
Trend toward stabilization of incidence rates in certain regions
Decline in hospital admission rates continuing across the entire country
Overseas territories:
Incidence rate continues to rise in Réunion
Increase in incidence in Martinique
Variants
Omicron sublineages: BA.5 is ubiquitous across the territory, accounting for 94% of sequences in the Flash S32 survey (08/08)
Prevention
Vaccination as of August 22, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):
Booster dose vaccination coverage remains stable at 75.3% among those aged 18 and older and at 85.3% among those aged 65 and older
Second booster dose: 26.4% of those aged 60–79 (32.6% of those eligible based on the time since their last injection) and 34.6% of those aged 80 and older (45.7% of those eligible) had received it
Given the summer holidays and activities that may increase virus transmission, adherence to the combined measures remains essential:
up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination;
isolation if you test positive for COVID-19 and/or have symptoms;
adherence to preventive measures: consistent mask-wearing around at-risk populations or in crowded indoor spaces (particularly on public transportation or at large gatherings) and increased handwashing. During heat waves, ventilation of indoor spaces should be limited to the coolest hours of the day
