COVID-19: Epidemiological Update as of April 16, 2020

Key Points

  • Decrease in COVID-19-related visits to primary care, SOS Médecins, and hospital emergency departments, reflecting a decline in new infections

  • Decrease in new hospitalizations and new ICU admissions of COVID-19 patients

  • Stabilization of the number of hospitalized patients at a high level and the beginning of a decline in the number of patients in intensive care

    • ICU: at least 67% of cases have comorbidities and 50% are aged 65 and older

    • Deaths: 84% with comorbidities and 92% aged 65 and older

  • Excess mortality from all causes at the national level and in the Grand Est, Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and Centre-Val-de-Loire regions

ERRATUM - Following an incident involving data reporting from a "Child Welfare" facility that was subject to a post-publication verification, Table 1 on page 6 of the epidemiological update dated 04/16/20 has been corrected and updated. To date, no deaths have been reported by any child welfare agency.
