COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for April 14, 2022
Key Points
In Week 14, the COVID-19 incidence rate remained at a very high level, accompanied by a positivity rate that continued to rise.
Mainland France:
Incidence rate slightly up among those aged 50 and older, more pronounced among those aged 60–79
Incidence and positivity rates down among those aged 10–19 for the second consecutive week
SARS-CoV-2 transmission remains intense in all regions
Hospital admissions remain at a high level and are rising in some regions
Overseas territories:
High incidence rate and still rising in Réunion
Continued improvement in the epidemiological situation in Guadeloupe and Martinique
Variants
Omicron is circulating almost exclusively, with the BA.2 sublineage accounting for 96% of sequences as of March 28 (Flash S13)
Prevention
Vaccination as of April 11, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):
73.5% of those aged 18 and older and 83.4% of those aged 65 and older had received a full primary vaccination series and a booster dose
Only 9.2% of those aged 80 and older had received a second booster dose, which is recommended for this age group
A second booster dose is also recommended for those aged 60–79, nursing home residents, and immunocompromised individuals
In a context of widespread circulation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses:
It is important to continue wearing masks and to self-isolate if symptoms develop or a COVID-19 test is positive
The need for individuals to follow preventive measures, including wearing a mask (especially in enclosed spaces, during large gatherings, or in the presence of vulnerable people), handwashing, and frequent ventilation of enclosed spaces
