We believe that the public health debt persists and is growing [Interview]

The French Hospital Federation’s (FHF) Healthcare Access Barometer, published in March 2024, reports underutilization of care provided by public and private healthcare facilities. The organization estimates that 3.5 million hospital stays were not completed between 2019 and 2023, and warns of an "unprecedented public health debt" due to a backlog that could not be cleared or that did not immediately return to its expected level. This primarily affects people over the age of 45. Regarding diabetes, one of the chronic conditions most closely linked to socioeconomic status, the study points to a possible correlation between the lack of follow-up care due to the pandemic and an increase in complications in the coming years.
