Expert opinions on the strategy for establishing a stockpile of medical countermeasures in preparation for an influenza pandemic

As part of preparations for an influenza pandemic, French health authorities have decided, among other measures, to build up stockpiles of medical countermeasures—specifically physical stockpiles of barrier measures and antivirals—in order to be able to protect and/or treat the target population quickly. This strategy must be regularly reassessed in light of evolving knowledge and available innovations. The Directorate General for Health (DGS) consulted Santé publique France on November 14, 2016, to obtain an opinion on the strategy for using antivirals to respond to a pandemic and on the sizing of national strategic stockpiles of antivirals, based on evidence.
