Influenza Virological Surveillance: 2014–2015 Season
Influenza surveillance by the National Reference Center for Influenza Viruses during the 2014–2015 season began in late September 2014 and ended in early April 2015. The epidemic, which was severe, was characterized by the predominant circulation of influenza viruses of subtype A(H3N2), with the co-circulation of influenza viruses of subtype A(H1N1)pdm09 and type B. Among the influenza viruses of subtype A(H3N2), a significant proportion of variant viruses, antigenically distinct from the vaccine strain, circulated. The epidemic was particularly severe among the elderly.
