Monitoring of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. Update as of December 9, 2012

Over the past two weeks, 103 cases of CO poisoning have been reported, involving 367 people.

  • The increase in the weekly number of poisoning incidents is consistent with what is typically observed given the drop in temperatures over the past two weeks.

  • Five mass CO poisoning incidents, all related to a boiler, exposed 110 people to CO fumes (15 to 40 people affected per incident).

  • Four deaths occurred over the past two weeks during three incidents of accidental domestic poisoning involving a boiler.
