CBD and nitrous oxide use among adults in mainland France in 2022

Cannabidiol (CBD)

  • 16.4% of adults have used CBD at least once in their lifetime

  • 10.0% of adults have used CBD in the past year

  • 27.6% of 18-34-year-olds have used CBD at least once in their lives

  • 17.5% of 18-34-year-olds have used it in the past year

  • 18.5% of men vs. 14.5% of women have used CBD at least once in their lifetime

  • 10% of men and women have used it in the past year

Young people generally consume CBD by smoking it, while older adults tend to take it orally. 1 in 10 CBD users was a minor when they first used it.

Nitrous oxide

  • 4.3% of adults have used nitrous oxide at least once in their lifetime

  • 0.8% of adults have used it in the past year

  • 13.7% of 18- to 24-year-olds have used nitrous oxide at least once in their lives

  • 3.2% of 18- to 24-year-olds have used it in the past year

All users in the past year are under 35 years old, with an average age of 25. More
men than women have tried nitrous oxide, but just as many have used it in the past year.
