Health Promotion in Prisons: A Framework for Intervention.

People in detention face economic and social vulnerabilities and difficulties in accessing healthcare and preventive services, making it necessary to address their specific health needs. Recognizing this reality, practitioners on the ground have launched preventive and health education initiatives in correctional facilities. This intervention guide, which is part of the Ministry of Health’s “Health Policy for Persons in the Justice System” plan, is intended for them. It serves as a tool for: - providing information on the legal and institutional framework for the care of prisoners; - reflecting on health promotion concepts and their application in settings of deprivation of liberty; - as a methodology for implementing health promotion actions or programs; - to support on-the-ground initiatives through concrete examples. It is intended for all those who wish to develop their initiatives within a comprehensive health promotion approach (healthcare and correctional administration professionals, detention facility staff, associations, etc.).
