A qualitative survey of women regarding their perceptions of the "Breastfeeding Guide."
Background - The PNNS aims to increase the frequency and duration of breastfeeding. In response to the need for support in breastfeeding, the INPES has developed, through a multidisciplinary effort, an informational guide that will be distributed to women primarily by healthcare professionals. A pretest was conducted during the development process. Objective - To analyze women’s perceptions of the content (practical usefulness, approach, etc.); the format (layout and structure of the text, illustrations, etc.); and the appropriate timing for distribution. Method - Qualitative study based on a mixed-methods approach: face-to-face individual interviews and focus groups. Thirty pregnant or breastfeeding women from all socioeconomic and occupational backgrounds were interviewed. Results - This guide meets women’s expectations in a context where information on breastfeeding is highly fragmented (various written materials and sources). It was deemed very comprehensive in terms of information. The chosen holistic approach was appreciated. The most appropriate time for its distribution would be the second trimester of pregnancy. Conclusion - This guide will help professionals communicate more effectively with women and support them in their breastfeeding plans.
