Key Points
In Week 40 (September 28–October 4, 2026), the number of emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits remained stable across all age groups compared with the previous week. Among people aged 15–74, these figures were slightly higher than those of the previous 3 years.
Most respiratory indicators were stable or declining compared to the previous week. Notably, there was a decrease in emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 infection among those under 15 years of age (-33%, or -65 visits) and for asthma among those aged 2–14 (-10%, or -212 visits).
However, there was a slight increase in visits for influenza or flu-like illness among those aged 75 and older (+31%, or +29 visits), with low case numbers and levels comparable to previous years.
Among other indicators, there was also an increase in visits:
- Among children under 2 years of age for conjunctivitis (+16%, or +21 visits) and urinary tract infections (+20%, or +56 visits);
- Among children aged 2–14 for behavioral disorders (+12%, or +92 visits).
