Key Points

In Week 34 (August 17–23, 2026), the number of emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits remained stable across all age groups compared to the previous week.

Most indicators were stable or declining among both children and adults. However, there was an increase in visits—at levels comparable to previous years—among children for:

  • trauma (+6%, or +1,089 visits),
  • asthma (+15%, or +60 visits) among 2- to 14-year-olds,
  • various skin conditions (+10%, or +26 visits) among children under 2 years of age only.

Among adults, an increase was also observed at levels comparable to previous years for:

  • ENT conditions (+16%, or +29 visits) among those aged 75 and older,
  • suicide attempts (+7%, or +27 visits) among those aged 45–64,
  • chest pain (+8%, or +855 visits) and other neurological conditions (+6%, or +524 visits).
