Artificial Intelligence in Health and the Environment: Beyond the Black Box—Applications, Prospects, and Challenges. Proceedings of the Seminar Held on November 21, 2024

The seminar "Artificial Intelligence in Health and the Environment: Beyond the Black Box" is the natural next step in a collaborative effort between Santé publique France and Ecolab, which resulted in a report on the integration of AI into health and environmental fields. This seminar also marks a new phase for Santé publique France, whose practices are being profoundly transformed by AI. The agency sees AI as a powerful tool for addressing major public health challenges. The opportunities are numerous: improving the quality of environmental data, predicting exposures, or strengthening our ability to anticipate health events. The rise of generative AI tools opens up unprecedented possibilities, while raising crucial questions about data security and environmental impact—issues to which Santé publique France is highly sensitive. This event was designed to explore the issues and practical applications of AI in our research, the ethical challenges they raise, and the national strategies to be developed. Our goal is to build bridges between disciplines, teams, and institutions in order to advance knowledge and practices.
