There Can Be No Mental Health Without Social Justice

Mental health is not limited to disorders or individual life stories. It is shaped, weakened, or strengthened by numerous social, economic, political, and cultural factors. To improve everyone’s mental well-being, we must address these determinants proactively. This requires moving away from a care-centered approach toward coordinated multisectoral policies on housing, employment, and the fight against poverty and discrimination, among other areas.
