Suicide Prevention: Knowledge and Interventions [Introduction to the Report]

According to the latest data from the Center for Epidemiology on Medical Causes of Death (CépiDc) at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm), 8,948 suicide deaths were recorded in 2015, placing France 10th (out of 28) among European Union countries with the highest suicide rates. Research on suicidal behavior shows that, beyond individual factors, suicidal behavior is determined by socio-environmental contexts (economy, employment, living environment, exposure to violence, isolation, access to prevention and care services) that strongly influence individuals’ life trajectories and mental health.
