Quebec: Toward a Health-Promoting Urban Environment

Quebec has adopted a strategy to develop "environments conducive to healthy lifestyles." A framework document outlines the specific actions to be taken across multiple areas: environment, nutrition, physical activity, sustainable transportation, etc. Sophie Paquin emphasizes that cities have several tools at their disposal to create supportive environments, but that they cannot act without the political will of elected officials or the social acceptance of civil society toward actions that transform their living environments.
