Premature Babies: In Brest and Montpellier, Parents Take an Active Role in Their Care.

Several hospitals in France—including those in Montpellier and Brest—have implemented Nidcap, an innovative care program for extremely premature infants that involves parents in both care and decision-making. Parents have access to the unit, and the newborn’s observation and care are provided jointly. This represents a cultural revolution for healthcare professionals, who receive specialized training for this purpose. The program is said to significantly reduce the newborn’s stress and improve their physical and mental well-being.
