Obesity has multiple social and cultural causes.
Interview with Jean-Pierre Poulain. In his latest book, *Sociology of Obesity*, this socio-anthropologist specializing in food emphasizes the importance of studying perceptions of obesity more closely in order to “deconstruct” them. It is this expansion of knowledge that should enable us to change society’s view of obesity and the practices of healthcare professionals. The goal is to better support people who are overweight. To achieve this, the contribution of the social sciences is essential, and it is unrealistic to believe that obesity can be addressed strictly from a medical perspective.
