Migrants: Working and living conditions that are taking a toll on their health

What is the state of health of middle-aged migrants in France? Few studies have addressed this topic. A survey by the National Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) provides concrete data, at least regarding the entire life course. The findings show that migrants arrive in France in generally good health—which holds true for men but not for women—yet their unfavorable living conditions have a detrimental effect on their health. These results are consistent with those of major studies published elsewhere.
