Mediation, serving as a bridge between healthcare providers and patients, ensures better medical care and improved prevention in sexual health [Interview]

Originally from Burkina Faso, Sié Dionou is a nurse and health mediator at four Parisian hospitals. Working alongside the social worker, he helps patients communicate with healthcare providers… and helps healthcare providers take into account the cultural specificities of foreign patients. From the patients’ perspective, the feedback has been positive: “Finally, our culture is being taken into account in our medical care.” Among medical staff, he observes a shift in professional practice, with greater attentiveness and consideration for the importance of cultural perspectives.
