Through a series of articles, *La Santé de l'homme* traces the evolution of conceptions of mental health, from the realms of hygienism and morality to that of public health. The authors’ historical, political, and social analysis traces the evolution of the issue of mental health—on the one hand, toward its integration into the European and international context, and on the other, toward its necessary adaptation to local contexts.
