Of Senegalese origin—with a Senegalese Fulani mother and a Senegalese-Mauritanian Wolof father—Nafissatou Fall was born in Cameroon and lived there until the age of 14, during which time she was deeply immersed in Fulani and Wolof culture. Today, as an interpreter and mediator for an organization in Le Havre, she trains professionals and educates African women to prevent female genital mutilation. This community-based work, carried out in partnership with a doctor, has helped reduce the practice of female genital mutilation.
