The health-focused hospital movement.

This section presents the WHO European Office’s program on developing a network of hospitals engaged in health promotion. An environment conducive to healthy choices (goods, services, and infrastructure) enables the hospital to become a place of knowledge and experience, addressing environmental issues (such as hospital waste) and product consumption. It must therefore offer staff, patients, and their families services to this end. This entails changes in medical, structural, and organizational policies, as well as staff involvement and the allocation of resources. The network facilitates cooperation and exchanges, the implementation of joint action plans and evaluation procedures, and the publication of evaluated initiatives that can serve as references. Experiences are shared through a newsletter and the organization of conferences. Following a pilot project involving some twenty hospitals, networks have been established at the regional and national levels.
