Health education in schools: a policy gaining momentum.

The author presents a summary of Dr. Jacques Beaupère’s report to the Economic and Social Council on school and university health, published in July 1990. In light of the transfer of these services to the Ministry of National Education, measures are proposed to better align them with the tasks at hand, among which health promotion must take precedence. Increasing staffing resources (doctors, nurses), expanding screening programs, refocusing various missions, developing school and university epidemiology, and coordinating screening, care, and prevention must be carried out in collaboration with the public health sector at the national, regional, departmental, and local levels. Highlighting the need to reorganize university medicine to make it more responsive to students’ needs.
