The growing use of medical and psychological interventions to address academic failure.

The difficulties faced by elementary school students who struggle to master the "basics" (reading, writing, and arithmetic) or to conform to school rules are increasingly interpreted as medical or psychological disorders. Teachers are therefore turning to healthcare specialists all the more readily, as the number of special education teachers working in schools with struggling students has been reduced.
