The First 1,000 Days: Supporting Parents to Support Children

Pregnancy and the two years following birth are a pivotal time for a child. During this period, any so-called “adverse” event (violence, loneliness, social instability, natural disasters, etc.) that causes the mother or parents to feel insecure results in cognitive difficulties for the baby and, later on, health problems or difficulties integrating into society—all of which come at a high cost to society. This is why it is essential to establish a social structure and environment that will help build a solid foundation for the child.
