The prevalence of mental disorders makes mental health a public health priority. A review of the scientific literature highlights shortcomings in information, support, and care practices: undiagnosed cases, individuals receiving psychotropic medications despite having no confirmed mental disorders, and effective treatments that are not being used satisfactorily. French government agencies and experts are currently working on an action plan in which INPES is involved. [article excerpt]
