Any health policy or intervention should be designed in such a way as not to exacerbate inequalities.
All healthcare professionals must embrace the goal of reducing social inequalities in health (SIH), yet their training only touches on this issue in passing. Any health policy or intervention should simultaneously aim to achieve two objectives: an overall improvement in health for the entire population and a reduction in—or, at the very least, a halt to—the widening of social inequalities in health.
