COVID-19 in France. Update as of August 21, 2024.

Key Points

  • In week 33, symptomatic indicators remained stable in the community and in hospitals. The proportion of hospitalizations following visits to the emergency room remained moderate compared to previous waves of viral circulation.

  • The detection of COVID-19 clusters in long-term care facilities has continued to decline for several weeks.

  • Virological indicators have remained generally stable for several weeks.

  • The decline in SARS-CoV-2 detection in wastewater continued.

  • Given the ongoing circulation of SARS-CoV-2, particularly during large gatherings this summer and in long-term care facilities, adhering to preventive measures remains an effective way to protect against respiratory infection and its complications and to limit the risk of transmission to others, especially vulnerable individuals: wearing a mask if symptoms are present and regular handwashing are therefore recommended.
