Heat Wave and Health Alert System. National Update as of July 18, 2016.
Key Points
Nationwide, the number of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations for conditions directly related to heat (hyperthermia/heatstroke, dehydration, hyponatremia) has risen since July 15, reaching 147 emergency room visits and 66 SOS Médecins consultations on Sunday, July 17. However, these figures remain moderate and comparable to those observed during the weekends of June 23–25 and July 9–10, during which a rise in temperatures was recorded without triggering an orange alert.
Among the seven departments classified as orange alert on July 17, only Charente recorded a slight increase in emergency room visits for heat-related diagnoses among people aged 75 and older. However, the numbers remain very low.
