French people’s knowledge and behaviors regarding heat waves.
A study by Santé publique France highlights the strong support provided by those around them (family, friends, and neighbors) to vulnerable individuals during heat waves—a form of support whose positive impact has also been demonstrated by our colleagues in Quebec. However, warning signs as serious as heatstroke remain largely unrecognized. Furthermore, awareness of one’s own risks is low, even among older adults: this can delay the implementation of preventive measures—which are generally well known—and hinder registration in municipal registries for vulnerable individuals.
