Expert Insights: Health as a Lever for Action on Climate Change; April 8, 2022
On April 8, 2022, Santé publique France and the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI) organized an interdisciplinary conference on health as a lever for action against climate change. The goal was to highlight the links between climate, biodiversity, and health and to encourage concrete actions at the local, national, and European levels. The various presentations highlighted the diversity and severity of health impacts on physical and mental well-being, as well as the numerous health benefits associated with ambitious climate policies. They emphasized that addressing the environmental and socioeconomic determinants of health can serve as drivers for climate adaptation and mitigation. Inspiring examples from European cities (Utrecht in the Netherlands, Athens in Greece, and Grenoble) that draw on a positive vision of the links between environment and health demonstrate how alliances among diverse stakeholders can radically transform environments to make them more conducive to health and biodiversity, while taking into account the imperatives of climate adaptation and mitigation. Recordings of the event are available with a single click from this document, which also introduces the various speakers and their affiliations.
