For the first time, an extension of this survey was conducted in Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, and Réunion. A representative sample of more than 8,000 individuals was surveyed regarding their health-related opinions and behaviors.

The health topics covered include areas traditionally monitored in mainland France (tobacco and alcohol use, access to screening, use of healthcare services, mental health…), as well as topics related to specific public health issues identified in partnership with healthcare providers working in these territories: diabetes, diet, chikungunya, leptospirosis, misuse of medications, vaccination coverage for young children, etc.

The fieldwork for this survey, conducted by Ipsos, took place from April to November 2014, involving 8,163 respondents.

Since Ipsos operates two telephone survey platforms in the French overseas departments, interviews were conducted in Martinique for the French departments in the Americas and in Réunion. Landline and mobile phone numbers were randomly generated from the prefixes assigned by ARCEP. To be eligible, a household had to include at least one person aged 15 to 75 who spoke French or Creole. Respondents were selected by random drawing from among eligible household members via landline, and from among regular mobile phone users via mobile.

The duration of the interview ranged from 30 minutes in Guadeloupe to 37 minutes in French Guiana. The data were weighted by the number of eligible individuals and telephone lines within the household and calibrated against the most recent INSEE national reference data available at the time of preparing the 2014 DOM Health Barometer database, namely those from the 2011 population census.

The survey results concerning various topics and populations were made public through articles, oral presentations, posters displayed at conferences, press releases, or other publication formats.
