Key Points

In Week 31 (August 1–7, 2022), emergency room visits and hospitalizations declined among children (down 8% and 9%, respectively, or 5,869 visits and 597 hospitalizations) and remained stable among adults.

Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups are down for the third consecutive week (4,157 vs. 5,221 visits, a decrease of 20% in Week 31 vs. 35% in Week 30). This decline applies to all age groups. The share of activity across all age groups is down (1.3% vs. 1.6% in Week 30), while the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit has stabilized (37% vs. 36% in Week 30). At the regional level, numbers were down in all regions except Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, where they remained stable.

Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 856,463 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.

Most other indicators are declining. However, in connection with the heat wave, there has been an increase among adults in visits for hyperthermia and heatstroke (+79%, or +72 visits), dehydration (+16%, or +64 visits), as well as for isolated fever (+11%, or +141 visits). Among children under 15, there has been an increase in visits due to suicidal behavior (+16%, or +14 visits), with levels remaining comparable to those observed in 2020 and 2021.
