COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of September 10, 2021

  • Since the peak of the epidemic (week 2021-31), viral circulation has been declining, although hospitals remain under significant strain. Martinique remains in Phase 3, “epidemic.”

  • Positivity and incidence rates were declining, with testing rates also decreasing. The 15–44 age group recorded the highest incidence rate, particularly among those aged 20–39.

  • The effective reproduction number (Rt) calculated from SI-DEP data for samples collected between August 29 and September 4 was 0.65 [0.62–0.68], significantly below 1, indicating a decline in the epidemic.

  • In hospitals, the situation remains critical, with high COVID-19 admission and mortality rates.

  • Excess mortality, across all ages and causes of death, remained high, as it has since week 2021-30.
