Update on enterovirus infections as of June 8, 2021

Background

Enteroviruses (EV) are found worldwide. They circulate year-round in tropical regions. In temperate zones such as France, an increase in enterovirus infection diagnoses is observed every year during the summer and fall, primarily linked to a resurgence of meningitis. This increase can be observed as early as May but most often occurs in June and July. A summer peak is usually observed in S26 or S27, and a second, smaller peak is often observed during the fall.
