Support group and smoking prevention in middle school.

This initiative, carried out in five 8th-grade classes (average student age: 15), had the following two objectives: to promote and reinforce tobacco abstinence among those who do not smoke, and to help reduce or even stop smoking among the others. It took place in three phases: administering a questionnaire to all participating students; each student participated in three 90-minute discussion groups (led by a facilitator from outside the school) and had the opportunity to create posters displayed during “Body and Health” Day. The evaluation involved administering the same questionnaire to the students involved and comparing the results: 64% of them gained new knowledge about tobacco.
